invite you to nominate individuals who have gone
above and beyond to serve their community. A small local ferret shelter has been nominated as an Every Day All Star for going above and beyond to serve the community. Included in the nomination, “I am nominating Diane because with extremely little funds, most all coming out of her pocket or through generous donations, using the basement of her house, she has provided a safe haven for countless rescue ferrets like the one in the picture attached. Diane works a full time, yet continues to provide support and nurturing to all ferrets and owners that come her way to her shelter, South Shore Ferret Care.
Diane’s commitment is costly not only financially, but emotionally as well mostly due to the way she normally receives her shelter ferrets. Some recklessly abandoned some horribly abused, sick or dying and others that have been loved, yet still have to be surrendered by their owners due to extreme circumstances. Her shelter is a 100% volunteer, non-profit, state licensed Ferret Shelter and now one of the only few remaining ones on the east coast. Most pet shelters do not take in ferrets.
The South Shore Ferret Care Shelter also provides ferret education, ferret sitting services, rescue and adoptive services as well as daily care for hospice for ferrets. They assist owners with at home supportive care, post surgical ferret care and are available to talk with anyone during grieving periods at times of loss.
While ferrets are not at the top of most people’s “pet” list, there are more and more of them being brought into Massachusetts each day. Sadly to say, I am sure that a very high percentage will eventually end up at South Shore Ferret Care, where I know they will be in good hands with Diane and her volunteer staff.
I, myself, do not own a ferret, but felt strongly compelled to nominate Diane for her extreme dedication, passion and heart that she continues to bring to her Ferret Shelter. Thank you for considering Diane.”
